KAHLA Novelties: Innovation meets Tradition

History for all the senses:

300 years of German porcelain art are brought to life by KAHLA in the editions Blau Saks "blue touch!", Five Senses "Centuries" and Update "Deluxe".

"Innovation meets tradition": that is KAHLA’s motto for its product novelties, three design editions with historic echoes. They reflect an entire tradition from the drawn of porcelain manufacture in Germany to today"s innovative shapes, decoration and processes. 2010 is, after all, the 300th anniversary of the start of porcelain production in Meissen. Just shortly before, Johann Friedrich Böttger and Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus had succeeded in producing the very first European porcelain.

History you can feel – and that feels great - comes from the collection Blau Saks "blue touch!". The classic blue and white Blau Saks or "Blue Saxon" pattern, also known in Germany as straw pattern, parsley pattern, small onion pattern and Indian Blue, is now available with the velvety touch! coating. Cup and teapot handles now lie smooth and snug in your hand, and touch! gives the candleholder a new and stylish finish. KAHLA"s patented three-dimensional surface is also ideal for everyday use. Dishwasher and microwave safe, it is one of the greatest porcelain innovations of recent years. The classic pattern, still hand-stamped in an under glaze decoration technique, has been successfully updated to meet modern demands.

Five Senses “Centuries” has trodden a very different path. Three handles from three different eras are combined with multi-award winning 21st century design. For a cup is not just a cup. Each individual piece is the product of a millennium-old tradition. With its baroque, art nouveau and neo-classical touches, Five Senses “Centuries” makes this clear with a respectful salute to its forerunners – a successful retrospective of 300 years of German porcelain tradition and much more besides.

Modern shapes meet historic magnificence in KAHLA"s third jubilee edition, Update "Deluxe". Update, the versatile stackable range for modern dining, has taken on a second identity with elements borrowed from times gone by. Golden ornamentation lends the clear forms the splendour of luxury historic tableware. Lion"s head bowls, footed cups, garland plates and classic fiddle or "Spaten" cutlery are now a - tongue in cheek - part of the range. The porcelain is now leading a double life; the new finish moves between everyday stylish simplicity and magnificence, clear contours and ornamentation, functionality and luxury.
