KAHLA Porcelain at Museum of Modern Art in New York

Velvety-soft porcelain mugs from the collection touch! are sold at the world’s most famous art gallery

Each year more than one million people come to the world famous Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City which exhibits works by Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. From November 2008 onwards, the museum’s design store will offer touch!, the world’s first porcelain with a velvety soft surface design, that is produced by KAHLA, the German trendsetter of the porcelain industry.

Design fans from all over the world can buy books, fashion, jewellery, accessories and furnishings by famous international designers like Philippe Starck on New York’s 53rd Street, in the museum’s catalogue and the online store (www.momastore.org). There, also KAHLA’s velvety soft mugs from the collection touch! (idea: speziell®) will soon be available. The patented porcelain coating is dishwasher safe, microwave resistant and safe for use with food. The intense colours are suited for daily use while keeping their vibrancy. Furthermore, the velvety-soft material insulates the fingers from the heat of hot beverages. touch! has already been awarded eight national and international design awards such as the red dot award and the Good Design Award Chicago. Also the mugs from the collection Update designed by Barbara Schmidt have won seven awards.

Thanks to KAHLA’s new sales and marketing strategy for the US market, the porcelain manufacturer supplies national retailers such as “Crate & Barrel” as well as hotels, restaurants, small boutiques and online shops with its design-oriented porcelain “Made in Germany”. KAHLA’s sales director Stefan Richard said, “MoMA is one of the world’s famous galleries for modern art, design classics and material studies. We are proud and honoured that MoMA’s director Glenn D. Lowry and his team have chosen KAHLA design. Since 1994 KAHLA’s strategy to focus on innovation and design has proved to be highly successful.” Due to the dollar rate the company thinks that many tourists will visit New York and MoMA for holiday shopping.
