Patron Lothar Späth honours German porcelain producer For its outstanding work, KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH has received the TOP 100 award. This stamp of quality has been granted within a national comparative study. Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke from the Vienna University for Economic Studies investigated how medium-sized businesses manage their innovations: The top 100 – among them KAHLA – are now proud owners of the “TOP 100 2005” label. At the end of June, Germany’s top innovators met in Berlin where patron Lothar Späth handed over the renowned award. The study measures how successful the innovations are on the market. At the same time, it evaluates four areas of innovation management: innovative processes and organisation, the climate for innovations, innovation marketing and a top management which promotes innovations. These areas represent the businesses’ power for constant renewal on a long-term basis. „A good innovation management creates the balance between creativity and planning – both are important, at all stages“, says study leader Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke. KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan handles this balancing act in a convincing manner, having ensured itself a rank within the TOP 100. The porcelain producer in Thuringia tailors porcelain for customers all over the world. 45 percent are exported to 55 countries. This global success is achieved by investments into highly modern production technologies and innovative design concepts. The latest porcelain line “touch!” has a velvety-soft surface, protecting against too much heat, reducing the noise level and above all being dishwasher safe. Such variable and unconventional concepts document the courage to tackle also the most unusual ideas – this is the reputation of the German porcelain producer. What else KAHLA has to offer with regard to innovation can be read in the book “TOP 100 2005 – Germany’s most innovative medium-sized businesses”. Every year, Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke determines the hundred most innovative participants in the TOP 100 study, using a standardized procedure. The website www.top100.de and the above-mentioned book show which other companies – like KAHLA - have succeeded in entering this exclusive circle.
