The German porcelain manufacturer KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH has received the red dot award 2007 (product design) for its new design collection OPUS on 25th June 2007. For KAHLA it is the 62nd design award since 1994 and another highlight of the successful cooperation with the design team “speziell produktgestaltung”. Together with KAHLA, the three designers have already won several awards for touch!, the porcelain with a velvety-soft surface.
With the collection OPUS, KAHLA enters a new dimension of porcelain production. In the manufacturing of OPUS all physical laws of porcelain seem to have been repealed, as the production of this form inspired by futuristic architecture can only be realised by modern production processes – made in Germany. The graphically oriented collection can be used by ambitious private households and sophisticated gastronomy alike.
The design team about OPUS: “The succinct design lends the individual elements of the OPUS series to an architectonic feel. Arranged together on a festive table, they create a kind of digital landscape which stands in contrast with the prepared menus and sets the scene for the food.”
More than 1,500 international guests from design, media and commerce were expected at the award ceremony at the Essen opera house, the Aalto-Theater. www.kahlaporzellan.com
