68th award for porcelain manufacturer KAHLA

TAO receives Top Hotel Star Award 2009 and with it its first award for sustainability

For the second time, the Star Award of the renowned German magazine “Top Hotel” has been awarded in the beginning of November during the “Gäste“ trade fair in Leipzig to the manufacturers of the best products for the hotel industry. The final placement decision was in the end made by the readers of the magazine. They honoured TAO, the first environment-friendly porcelain from KAHLA, with the Top Hotel Star Award in silver in the category sustainability. With this, KAHLA is the first porcelain producer to receive an award for a socially fair, ecological and certified production and is endorsed in its strategy by a professional audience.

Natural shapes, sensual contours and clear lines characterize the collection TAO (design: speziell®) and let the porcelain become reminiscent of items softly washed by water that one would find while strolling on a beach or in a gurgling brook. This way the modern collection creates a harmonious atmosphere of well-being at the table.

With the introduction of TAO in September 2008, KAHLA clearly positioned itself for the first time on the topic of sustainability. The sensible use of natural resources has always been a given, since the Raithel family took over the KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH. Since the re-founding through Günther Raithel in 1994, the company has continuously invested in innovative and modern technologies that are environment-friendly at the same time.

Due to the growing demands of consumers for ecological products, the „KAHLA pro Eco“ label was introduced in combination with TAO. The label does not just indicate environment-friendly produced porcelain, but also the expectation of fair and social working conditions on-site in Germany. Porcelain by KAHLA is regularly tested by independent institutes for harmful substances and is certified to the highest standards. The TAO décors “Shi” and “Zen” are produced with a highly innovative technology, reducing CO2 emission: they do not require an additional décor firing. KAHLA has been awarded the Ökoprofit certificate since many years now. With the projects conducted according to the Ökoprofit audit, KAHLA has saved millions of litres of drinking water, thousands of kilowatt hours of electricity and thousands of kilograms of CO2 each year. KAHLA meets international environmental, security and quality requirements.

As one of the winners in the category sustainability, KAHLA can let itself be seen in great company. In the other categories, such as concept, innovation or efficiency, renowned brands such as Nestlé Schöller, HRS – Hotel Reservation Service or Meiko can be found.
