Barbara Schmidt on the concept for Centuries: "I have loved porcelain ever since I was a child. It is a wonderful material, which is shaped into objects that are part of our daily lives. To rediscover it time and again is a pleasure. The idea of Centuries was to reinterpret trusted motifs and textures and to integrate them into KAHLA porcelain concepts for the present day. This isn‘t your standard dinner service; it‘s a colourful selection of beautiful objects that enrich their users with endless possible combinations." Four design lines are part of Centuries: Thuringia, Mirasol, Feston and Époque.
Thuringia: Ribbed reliefs are a very classical motif that has adorned many a porcelain from Saxony and Thuringia. Several pieces, such as the tea pots and bowls are direct replicas of old KAHLA models. By contrast, the plates are a collage of the traditional relief and Asian style blossoms. The inventors of the ribbed structure presumably were guided by nature. The blossoms complete the circle. Mirasol: Two different kinds of flower petals, one narrow, curved and sharply defined, the other wider and smooth adorn the porcelain. At times they form a dynamic landscape, at other times they grow out of a swirl or coil up into a spiral. Sometimes they are regular in shape, sometimes irregular and seem to flutter about the plate as if just been plucked. He loves me, he loves me not... Feston: Straightforward porcelain gets a type of lace collar on one side - a festoon. It is amazing how this changes its effect! The relief lines that run parallel to the wavy rim are also found in silverware. Thus, a quite familiar sight in the table landscape, yet again entirely new. Époque: Historical handles meet porcelain of the present day. Rich dynamic ornamentation marries reduced design. From the KAHLA design books we chose a handle each from the Classicism, Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau era. With playfully ironic ease, these handles add a little lustre of bygone times to 21st century cups and jugs. Productmovie:
